Like the Panamera sedan and the Cayenne SUV which were greeted warily by Porsche purists, the company’s gas electric powertrain has little trouble dismissing doubts, rewriting expectations, and silencing skeptics. While Germany’s great sports car maker is rapidly eleetrifying its lineup, it is simultaneously destroying hybrid stereotypes with vehicles like the 918 Spyder the 911 GT3 R Hybrid race car, and the Cayenne S Hybrid.

The new Panamera S Hybrid uses the same powertrain as the gas/electric Cayenne, save For a few changes to the battery—cooling plumbing. Inside the Panamera ’s enormous snout lives the same 333-hp, 3.0—liter supercharged V-6 that’s also found in the Audi S4. The addition of a 47-hp electric motor raises the peak power output to 380 hp and 427 lb ft of torque. The Panamera can run in hybrid mode or electric-only mode, accessed by the "E·Power" button on the center console. A nickel—metal-hydride battery is mounted under the trunk floor and can hold up to 1.7 kVVh ofenergy. The battery weighs about150 pounds and helps the Panamera S Hybrid achieve a more balanced weight distribution (51/49 percent) without substantially compromising trunk space.Compared with the V-6 Panamera S, an S Hybrid is about 400 pounds heavier. ---continue reading

Recommended :
PORSCHE 3D LOGO SILVER METAL KEY CHAIN<img alt="" border="0" height="1" src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=widgetsamazon-20&l=btl&camp=213689&creative=392969&o=1&a=B0041VLNJQ" style="border: medium none ! Initially BMW planned to build the Z2 on the brand’s upcoming front-wheel-drive architecture ignition, May zoul However, the mere rumor of a front-wheel-drive BMW sports car raised enough of an outcry within the enthusiast community that BMW officials are now considering two far better options. The first would be to continue developing the car on this platform, alongside the Mini Roadster and Coupe, but to take a page from Audi and make it four-wheel drive. Among the undisputed advantages of this strategy are (1) a short path to production (spring 2014 for a ragtop roadsten fall 2014 for a coupe version), (2) the traction bonus inherent to four-wheel drive, and (3) the economies of scale offered by bitching up to a high-volume architecture.
On the debit side, it's hard to ignore the usual weight, space, and cost penalties of adding driveshafts and other associated hardware. Continue reading . . .

Porsche Wants to Keep Profitability Lead, Automotive News Says

Porsche SE wants to retain and build on its position as the world’s most profitable carmaker, Automotive News Europe reported, according to the e-mailed preview of an article that will appear in Tuesday’s edition.

Volkswagen AG needs to build five or six new plants worldwide to meet demand, the magazine said, citing Chief Executive Officer Matthias Mueller. have started the mass manufacturing of its Blink Level 2 Charging Stations at Roush Manufacturing.

ECOtality partnered with Roush in July 2010 to manufacture the company's Blink home and commercial charging stations.

The company said that the agreement marked a major move for Roush into the electric vehicle industry.

This is an important evolutionary step for Roush and the automotive industry, as an existing Roush automotive facility has been modified to now support the developing EV industry, said the firm.

ECOtality president Don Karner said throughout each step of the EV Project, they've seen unprecedented consumer demand for electric vehicles, and partners like Roush have played a key role as they've brought their smart charging stations to market.

"Roush's stellar reputation and automotive OEM experience made them an ideal partner as we made the move to full-scale manufacturing," Karner said.

"Together we are excited to bring an innovative, American-made charging station to EV drivers nationwide."

The Blink charging stations form the centerpiece of the rich charging infrastructure network ECOtality is deploying, as part of the DOE-backed EV Project.

The home charging stations class="fullpost">The director of the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), Shrikant Marathe, said on Tuesday the institute proposes to build laboratories on the land to be deleted from the hill-top zone and converted to public-semi-public zone. “The construction will not lead to a concrete jungle on the hill,” he assured.

Marathe was speaking to reporters on Tuesday to dispel fears that ARAI’s proposed expansion would lead to concretisation of Vetal Tekdi and loss of its green cover. Marathe said the state government allotted the entire survey number 102, measuring 260 acres in Kothrud, to the ARAI on 90 years’ lease in 1970.

Though the entire land was allotted to the ARAI, its activities are spread over 25 acres, of which its laboratories and office buildings cover 3.5 acres. The remaining land, except for internal roads, has been developed for tree cover, he said.

Under the proposed expansion plan, the ARAI would set up advanced laboratories to develop less polluting Euro-5 and Euro-6 technologies for greener and safer vehicles. These facilities are required to be used along with the existing facilities.

“It is a logical extension, considering the future needs of the automobile sector and could not be set up elsewhere,” he said.
The ARAI director said the laboratories would be set up under the National Automotive Testing Research and Development Infrastructure Project (Natrip), an ambitious initiative of the Union government’s ‘Automotive Mission Plan 2006 to 2016’.

This plan has the vision of raising the auto sector’s contribution to gross domestic product (GDP) to 10% and creation of over 25 million jobs. The Union ministry of heavy industries has sanctioned Rs250 crore for this ultra-modern research and development project.Marathe said if the land is not available, then this Rs250-crore project can go outside Maharashtra and it will be a big deterrent for industry in Pune.

He said it is important to note that only another 3.5 acres would be utilised for this expansion and the total area under construction of both existing and proposed development would be less than 5% of the total land. ARAI’s expansion plan does not include any residential construction.

Chubby and The Automotive Training Institute Give Back $45,000 in Scholarships to the Automotive Repair Industry

SAVAGE, Md., Feb. 9, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Automotive Training Institute awarded a $45,000 scholarship to John and Mary Ann Bryant of Islip, N.Y., owners of Sonrise Automotive. Murtagh spent more than 30 years at GM in various leadership positions, capped by a five-year stint at CEO of GM China that ended in 2005. Progressive Automotive X-Prize officials announced the winners today in Washington, D.C., some 30 months after the competition began.

“We’ve seen a shift in the market since we first launched this competition, and a greater awareness by people everywhere to think more seriously about the actions we take, and how they affect our environment,” Peter Diamandis, chairman and CEO of the X Prize Foundation, said. “Gas mileage ranks as one of our top concerns when purchasing a new vehicle and I believe strongly that the innovations showcased throughout the life of this competition will continue to impact and improve our car buying options for the future.”

Now that the contest is won, the hard work begins. The winning teams hope to leverage their success to get their vehicles, or at least the technology underpinning them, into showrooms.

Although it seems highly unlikely that we’d see the Edison2 in showrooms, the car’s innovative use of aerodynamics, lightweight materials and a small displacement engine burning E85 is sure to catch the attention of automakers. The car weighs just 830 pounds, and it reportedly is the most aerodynamic vehicle ever tested in General Motors’ wind tunnel.

The remaining $5 million was split among Li-Ion Motors and Peraves X-Tracer Team Switzerland, both of which built electric vehicles. Both companies say they are taking orders for their vehicles.

Li-Ion Motors, which was formerly known as Hybrid Technologies, took top honors in the alternative side-by-side division. The Wave II uses a lightweight aluminum chassis and weighs 2,176 pounds. It got the equivalent of 187 mpg and more than 100 miles of range in a real-world driving cycle, according to X Prize officials. It does zero to 60 in 14.7 seconds.

X-Tracer won the alternative tandem class with the E-Tracer, a wild vehicle that blurs the line between motorcycle and car. The X-Tracer uses outrigger wheels to keep from toppling over. This clever design has two extra outrigger wheels that deploy at low speed to stabilize the vehicle. It weighs 1,436 pounds and delivered the equivalent of 187.6 mpg and more than 100 miles of range. It does zero to 60 in 6.6 seconds.

Our own Jason Fagone attended the ceremony and will file a full report later today. Stay tuned.

Read More http://www.wired.com/autopia/2010/09/automotive-x-prize-winner-gets-102-5-mpg

Mobile Air Conditioning Society (MACS) Worldwide

It is one of those 90-plus-degree days, hot, hazy and humid. Isn't it great to be able to get in your vehicle and enjoy the comfort your air conditioning system provides for you and your passengers?

The Mobile Air Conditioning Society (MACS) Worldwide wants all car owners to understand how their vehicle's air conditioning system works, be able to recognize problems and optimize performance so they can enjoy maximum comfort while driving.

To achieve the quickest interior cool-down:

• If possible, leave the windows down slightly on hot sunny days. Temperatures in a closed car can exceed 140 degrees F. An air conditioning (A/C) system works by removing heat, so the cooler the interior is to start with, the easier and faster the A/C will do its job.

• When you first get in the car, roll all the windows completely down, or even better, open the doors for a short period of time. This helps the hot interior air escape quickly.

• When you first turn the A/C on, set the controls to "MAX" and/or "REC", and use highest blower speed. This moves the greatest volume of air, recirculates cooling air for even faster cool-down, and prevents hot outside air from entering. As soon as you are comfortable, switch the system to "NORM" or "OUTSIDE," and select a lower fan speed. The lower the blower speed, the colder the air from the system.

• Applying window tint can help reduce interior temperatures. The tint does not have to be dark to reflect sunlight - some tints have a metallic substance within them for this purpose. Always check your local and state regulations; window-tinting products may not be legal in some states or municipalities.

MACS advises all consumers to take their vehicle A/C problems to a professional service facility that is certified in proper refrigerant recovery, recycling and recharging methods.

To learn more about your vehicle's air conditioning system, contact MACS Worldwide for an informative 32-page consumer booklet, "Getting to Know...Your Car's Air Conditioning and Engine Cooling System."

The Winner of Automotive UK Customer Satisfaction Award

MILTON KEYNES, UNITED KINGDOM Mercedes-Benz has been recognised as being the best automotive manufacturer in the country for providing excellent customer service in the latest UKCSI survey published by the Institute of Customer Service.

No other automotive brand was considered to serve its customers as well as Mercedes-Benz following the results of the not-for-profit organisation’s latest survey, which is compiled every 6 months through an online questionnaire of 26,000 UK consumers.

In addition to winning the Automotive UK Customer Satisfaction Award outright, Mercedes-Benz was placed 15th best Company in the UK for customer satisfaction. It's the first product for a company that is banking on the battery: the 33.8-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion unit powers a small motor for a range of 90 to 120 miles.

Coda brass are candid: It won't be the only car for most people, but it can meet the daily needs of most people. And in plain English, it's a “real car.” There's a trunk. It has fairly bland, universal styling and is roughly the size of a Chevrolet Cobalt. The ambitious goal is to sell 14,000 Codas next year with a sticker in the mid-$30,000 range after the $7,500 federal tax credit and other potential incentives.

“Consumers want real range,”
said Mike Jackson, Coda senior vice president of sales and distribution.

Still, the company faces obstacles, including offerings from established companies like the Chevrolet Volt and Nissan Leaf. Its business plan also is centered heavily on importing key elements from China. The chassis and body will be built in there at a factory run by Coda. The batteries also come from China, via a joint venture with a company called Lishen that also supplies batteries to Apple and Motorola. Final assembly and inspection of the cars will be completed in at Coda's Santa Monica, Calif., base. The batteries carry an eight-year, 100,000-mile warranty, and the rest of the car has three-year, 36,000-mile coverage.

The car will be outfitted with an eight-inch navigation screen with available real-time traffic and weather updates.

A longtime former General Motors marketing executive, Jackson was part of the discussions on naming the Volt and is acutely aware of the climate for all things green.

“The core consumers would be interested in technology and kind of early adopters,”
Jackson said.

Power comes from a small engine making 134 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque mated to a single-speed transmission. Maximum torque is present at launch, Coda says, and the batteries are located under the seats and can be charged in two to six hours. The Coda is based on a Mitsubishi platform but is mostly redesigned. It rides on 17-inch forged aluminum-alloy wheels and a four-wheel independent suspension with front and rear MacPherson struts. Top speed is limited to 80 mph.

The company is taking a fairly untraditional approach for distribution and will offer the cars in informational stores in high-end shopping centers. The final purchase is then made online. There also will be a flagship store in a former Saturn dealership in Santa Monica. A car is expected to be displayed later this year at the Los Angeles auto show.

Member Congress meet Toyota's

The case of the withdrawal of a major car Toyota cars in the U.S. making the U.S. Congress was outraged. However, getting rid of one car doesn’t have to mean buying brand new each time you require a new vehicle. There are a number of tips and guidelines to follow that can help you find a second-hand vehicle that’s perfect for your needs.

In tough economic times, it’s also no doubt that many people will be choosing to purchase used cars as opposed to cars straight from the showroom. For this reason, experts have released a number of guidelines for finding a used vehicle.

Unfortunately, many cars are stolen from owners each year and are then put on the used car market. If you suspect that the car you’re in talks to purchase could have been stolen, contact the authorities right away.

In addition, be on the look out for criminals who are car cloning. This means they’ve stolen a car and have altered the appearance to make it appear new. Be aware that if you’ve purchased a stolen or cloned car without knowing so, the vehicle can still be seized from you.

Of course, be sure to take the vehicle through a full inspection to make sure it is in the working order you expect. Receive a contract in writing stating the condition the vehicle has to match in regards to purchase, to prevent miscommunication.

Inspect the car on your own, and note issues including the mileage already placed on the car and note scratches and damage done to the outside of the vehicle. In the end, purchasing a used car leaves you in charge of what condition you are comfortable in finding the vehicle in. Determine the condition of the vehicle you’re purchasing and ensure that the vehicle won’t be further damaged before you take custody of it.

Depending on where you’re purchasing the vehicle from, it is important that you’re aware of your rights as a consumer. There are many used car lots that sell second hand cars, and if you’ve purchased a vehicle from here you are covered under the Sale of Goods Act. This Act ensures that the vehicle will meet certain standards, and can be enforced.

Before purchasing a used vehicle, ensure that it has not been classified a write-off by previous car insurance companies. If it has, the vehicle has probably been involved in a serious accident, and could be unfit for purchase and use.

After you’ve found the right vehicle for your needs, then it is a good idea to shop around and compare car insurance deals. And from doing so, you can find the right insurance to protect you and at the most affordable rate too.

Car Loans for Bad or No Credit Canada

ad Credit Car Loans Canada

There are times when one can be in a position of bad credit for many reasons, be it medical, divorce, lack of job or any other reason. In situations like this if a person wishes to get a car loan, he has to face difficult road ahead, but in-fact things are not as bad as may appear to be. These car loans are somewhat easier to get compared to personal loans, for the simple reason that for any reason if a person unable to pay properly, the lender can claim the vehicle back; this is not possible in the case of a personal loan.

In Canada having a car of your choice is now a necessity. When people are rushing with time, everyone is looking to get car loans. With increase in demand for bad credit loans, companies start to take them as potential group of customers, with special schemes and wings to take care of their applications and needs thereof. So wipe out misconceptions about Bad Credit Car Loans, which is totally untrue. All this happened as Canadian companies realized there are scores of bad credit customers waiting in the queue for car loans. All that matters for lenders is profits and as long as they make sure a person can afford to repay loan, there’s no difference whether his credit is bad or good. Only difference is stipulations will be tight and so too repayment options.

In Canada, there are many players in the market who can lend car loans for bad credit customers. These are private leasing agencies VFC, Scotia Dealer Advantage, Rifco and Carfinco. The car loan application form can easily be refused when a person approaches either banks or the car dealers. So for those who are having bad credit history, role of the private lenders comes into play. They can do all the preliminary work for the application, verification of personal details, current financial status, age, employment etc and then they deal with the car dealers to help you get the loan. Their rapport with dealers is of help for a customer. The loan can be for the purchase of either the new or used cars.

There are many factors that can influence the grant of car loan and its structure. They include credit score, duration of current job, salary, bankruptcy etc. To avail a loan, the person should be discharged of bankruptcy, the minimum salary limit usually be $1750.00 per month and the minimum of 6 months with the current job. The exact terms and conditions to grant a loan vary between the lenders. Some of the agencies might place emphasis on the credit history and some play emphasis on the current status etc. So it's wise to approach as many lenders as possible. People might get refused with one agency still may be successful in getting the loan with another. So never get bogged down or disheartened when your application is turned down. Under certain conditions, even banks may grant the loans.

The information about the lenders can be obtained from Internet, yellow pages, local newspapers etc. Online quotations can be obtained from them and they can be compared with one another. Some of the lenders in Canada are Auto Source Financial and Credit Net Financial. The bad credit history, salary will influence the down payment amount, interest, and the duration and the type of cars etc. The amount of down payment will also depend on the type of car purchased. The more expensive a car, the more down payments will be. Along with that some lenders can limit the choice of cars you can loan but others many not have that restriction. So make a list of favourite cars and also study for which of them lenders are offering loans.

Plan, do vital research to understand bad credit loan market and also about companies in Canada. Realizing where we stand helps a great deal, and then only we can put future targets in accordance to our capabilities. Look out for friends who have taken bad credit loan and take their suggestions. Thereafter get online quotes from several banks, compare, and finally arrive at a decision that suits you. Even though interest rates are on the higher side, hidden advantage with these loans is that timely repayment leads to positive effect on your credit rating, say after a year. One of the most important steps is to calculate repayment keeping in mind interest rate fluctuations which varies from 15% to 18%.Online auto loan calculators help us to know exact repayments at any time of the year. Have a holistic view of scheme of things and then apply for car loan.

Another aspect that's mooted for securing bad credit car loan is to apply for loan along with your friend who has better or good credit ratings than you .Even if there's no such option for you still try to repay small debts so that it shows cash flow. For example lenders asking for a running bank account for the last few months. Being open minded with the lender is always good, when you meet them explain how you play to repay debts and this obviously instils a sense of confidence. All this has to be done before applying for car loan.

Before a person decides to take a loan, he should be aware of the terms and conditions thoroughly. If we focus on the silver lining of each financial storm cloud! I'm talking about opportunity!

The opportunity to make the best deal possible when you purchase your dream car! Not the opportunity to take advantage of someone, but the advantage to make the best deal possible!

We have all seen the news of major auto manufactures cutting back, closing plants, closing dealerships or even filing bankruptcy, but what is not in the news is that automobile listings are on the rise at major internet sites such as EBay and Craig's list and the same goes for automobile fore sale newspaper adds in cities across America!

We have dealerships slashing new car prices as high as 40% in some areas and the same goes with used cars! This is opportunity knocking for you to buy that dream car at the best possible price.

Now before you jump you should ask yourself one very important question:

Do you really need that car? (Keep in mind that we are in economic bad times and if your purchase is going to place you into a financial strain, if would be best not to make that purchase). You don't want to have to be one who has to sell your dream car because you under estimated your financial situation!

If you answered yes we can now move on to making the best deal possible on your purchase by asking yourself the right questions!

How much can you afford? If you are going to finance your purchase you need to know how much of a down payment you can put down and how much of a monthly payment you can afford. (You must be realistic and honest with your self in this area).

Will your car be used for local or long distance travel? (Keep in mind that gas prices can turn your dream car into a money pit!).

What features are you looking for? You know those little extras such as air conditioning, cruise control, car color, stereo, 4 tires (just kidding), convertible or hard top, Anti-lock brake systems and so on.

Getting this all down (preferably on paper) before you start searching will save you a lot of time and money. Now comes one of the most important steps in any large purchase and that's research!

You will want to check and see what the average selling price is for that dream car in your area by checking websites and dealerships! They do this when you go to purchase a house or to get a home loan to find the value of your property and this same process works on just about any purchase you may make!

Once you have this in hand, you are now ready and prepared to make the best deal possible but you must be willing to walk away from the deal even if you have fallen in love with the car! Keep in mind your goal is to make the best deal possible and if you are willing to walk away your ability to negotiate is increased!

When you make your first offer you should make a low offer allowing yourself and the seller room to negotiate, this process makes everyone comfortable in the deal and at least for me its fun to haggle! But keep in mind that if you go in with a ridiculous offer the seller will most likely walk away leaving you looking like a fool!

Once you have made the deal on your dream car, take three more steps before you lay down your hard earned money!

Step 1: Ask the seller for service records (some will have them and some will not). If a vehicle has been properly serviced during its life time it can turn out to be a little treasure!

Step 2: Be sure to get a vehicle history report! This will identify any major problems such as odometer rollbacks, fire or flood damage and even past accidents.

Step 3: Have it checked out by a trusted mechanic! This will save you from purchasing a money pit!

By just following all three steps your dream car purchase will be one of the wisest purchases you may make!

I purchased a used car with a resale value of $32,000 for $17,900 several years ago by following each step! The car had an outstanding service record and even has a set of 8 manufactured vehicle manuals! So I took the deal to step 2 and ran a vehicle history report that cost around $19 and found out it was totaled because of hale damage even thought it was all repaired! Since I was all good with this I had it checked out by a trusted mechanic that cost me $75 and all was well so I made my purchase and drove this car for 5 years until I sold it for $15,000 making my true purchase less than $3,000!

Be prepared to stand firm and a willingness to walk away and you will find that your dream car purchase can be most exciting!

To your success and financial health,

Ozark Mike

Reasons to Buy a Used Moped Online

Author: Arnold Hexden

When you are looking to buy a used moped do you simply look in the newspaper classified's or visit the motorcycle store in your local town, or do you look further a field, such as the internet or motor cycle magazines.

The internet is often used to find the best price or compare models, however it can be a far more rewarding experience than simply finding your dream used moped or scooter from a picture and then looking in the local newspaper for something similar.

There are many motorcycle forums on the internet and the online community are always more than willing to help answer any questions you may have. Early suspension designs were designed in the way that front wheels were attached to the axle using steering spindles and kingpins. This allowed the wheels to pivot while the axle remained stationary leaving passengers worry free of rolling cars because of rocks and other hindrances that can cause the driver to loose control of the vehicle. Additionally, the up and down oscillation of the leaf spring was damped by device called a shock absorber .

Also known as damper, a shock absorber is a mechanical device designed to smooth out a sudden shock impulse and dissipate kinetic energy. The basic purpose of shock absorbers is to manage the movement of the spring and suspension done by converting the kinetic energy produced by the suspension to thermal or heat energy degenerated by means of hydraulic fluid.

Shock absorbers are basically oil pumps. A piston is attached to the end of the piston rod and works against hydraulic fluid in the pressure tube. The up and down movement of the suspension forces the hydraulic fluid to the tiny holes called orifices, inside the piston. However, these orifices let only a small amount of fluid through the piston. This slows down the piston, which in turn slows down spring and suspension movement. Technologically advanced shock absorbers are equipped with velocity hydraulic damping devices which provide increased speed in the movement of the suspension to attain greater resistance. The outcome is a versatile shock absorber that can match various types of roads. Acceleration squat are then reduced even when you bounce, sway or brake dive.

In a vehicle, it reduces the effect of traveling over rough ground, leading to improved ride quality. Without shocks , the vehicle would have a bouncing ride, as energy is stored in the spring and then released to the vehicle, possibly exceeding the allowed range of suspension movement. Shock absorbers allow the use of soft (lower rate) springs while controlling the rate of suspension movement in response to bumps.

Related News
National program comes to Tech; teaches value of maintaining your ... - Greenwood Index Journal
Layoffs at Owen Sound Plant - Bayshore Broadcasting News Centre
Bryan Anderson's ’66 427 Cobra Replica - Kit Car Magazine
Costly Car Repairs - WCBD-TV

Yahoo Answers
automotive testing and engineering?
Air-shocks for 1970 Chevy Nova?
Is it easy to change the coil springs, shocks, and leaf springs on a 2001 chevy s10?
Automotive advice?

Product Details from Amazon

Some of my recent related posts

Powered by StuffaBlog

Halting Your Car Effectively

Author: Anthony Fontanelle

Your car’s braking system consists of numerous parts, each helping the entire mechanism to make the car stop at the right moment. One of the most dangerous malfunctions that can happen to your car is brake failure. Unlike the common problem of overheating, brakes that are not working can put the lives of your vehicle’s occupants at risk. A considerable number of road accidents are caused by defective brakes. That it why it is important that all braking components like the Honda brake caliper are in top condition.

Honda brake calipers are pre-installed to all Honda vehicles together with the equally vital elements in the braking system. They are U-shaped clamps that are powered hydraulically to grip the brake rotors and eventually stop the car. The sides of a Honda brake caliper are equipped with one or two pistons. On top of the brake caliper pistons are the brake pads while the rotor freely spins in the channel of the U. Whenever you step on the brake pedal, high-pressure fluid is directed from the master cylinder to the brake caliper. The pressure of the fluid causes the piston or pistons to be pushed inward. In effect, the brake pads squeeze the brake rotor; this action creates a friction that stops the car.

The Honda brake caliper is designed to endure the heat and pressure during the braking process. Although the brake pads are prone to wearing out due to its direct contact with the rotor, the brake caliper also deteriorates in time because of the hydraulic brake fluid. It is, then, advised to regularly change the brake fluid so that rust build-up on the brake calipers is avoided. Regular inspection of the brake calipers is also recommended as not all drivers can easily detect the damage. An immediate replacement is the best idea to keep you and your passengers safe. Our site offers various Honda brake calipers, along with other vital car parts and accessories, made to suit various Honda vehicles.

Related News
Car fire halts traffic - Midhurst and Petworth Today
The Post editorial board: Caledonia + 2 - National Post
Spare us and tax those fiscal fools - Sydney Morning Herald
In Racetrack Roulette, an Owner Spins the Wheel - New York Times

Yahoo Answers
My car halts daily when I start it?
A car with a mass of 1200 kg moves at 18 m/s. It is easiest than you may figure out!

A very common way to diagnose an engine is by looking the spark plug firing tips because its appearance can reveal if your engine has a problem that need correcting.

But you need to be aware that the same spark plug firing tips appearance can have different root causes:
A) Mixture or timing misadjustment or other probable mechanical troubles.
B) Different traffic, weather, particular driving and /or engine operating conditions among others that affects the performance.

Unfortunately the traditional spark plug troubleshooting charts, only are considering as possible trouble causes: the first list A, for each spark plug firing tip appearance.

Never had included in its diagnostics that when the vehicle is functioning in one or some of the conditions listed in B, (that are very often); the combustion chamber temperature is affected, making that the stock spark plug heat range results too hot or too cold for these operating conditions, consequently their tip appearances will show those effects, which could be confused with the effects of mixture or timing misadjustment or other probable mechanical troubles.

For example: in a vehicle that is towing a trailer in a heavy city driving have to perform a extra engine’s charge to fight against the resistance of the weight, very often should overheat and it is not due to a wrong regulation or a mechanical trouble, neither because the radiator is not enough big. It is simply because the stock spark plugs, suggested by the manufacturers at the production line results to hot to this operating condition.

The different operation conditions that infludes in the operating conditions of an engine are much more frequents than most of the people may figure our, as reveals a report of the US Department of Transportation – DOT.

As result of this lack of information, the true importance of the heat range of the spark plugs becomes in a confused and uncertain concept, never sufficiently taken into account. Forasmuch, it should not surprise that even experienced mechanics are making wrong diagnostics, because most of them are confusing a lean mixture with an overheated spark plug owed to some operating conditions, like hauling a trailer; because the appearances of its firing tips look exactly the same. They can not either distinguish when the stock spark plug results too cold for some particular driving or operating conditions, like when driving at consistent low speed; from when has a rich mixture, because both have the same carbon fouled firing tips appearance.

And the worst! Those wrong diagnostics are leading them to wrong solutions, engaging in repair nonexistent and expensive mechanical troubles or unnecessarily trying to adjust the air-fuel mixture; instead of simply customizing the spark plug heat range to the particular driving or operating conditions that is the unique right, fast and cheap solution.

Additionally, because most of the people doesn’t have guide, neither method, nor tool that allow them to customize accurately the heat range of the sparkplugs, the real importance of the spark plugs heat range becomes in a confused concept, which only has been leading the mechanics to mistakes when they are reading their spark plugs.

So, any time a traditional spark plug troubleshooting charts mention “wrong heat range” or “check for the correct heat range”, being so unclear, a great majority of them are quite familiarized with the concept that “wrong heat range” only could be a spark plug different than the stock or the suggested by the manufacturers, ignoring that they should customize their tune-up simply by switching the spark plug’s heat range.

You can’t continuous wasting money in excess fuel consuming and paying bills for expensive repairs due to wrong diagnostics delivered by incomplete troubleshooting charts.

You must be sure you are correctly reading your spark plugs, exactly understanding what the spark plug's firing tips are telling you, troubleshooting your spark plugs with precision, and properly diagnosing the real root causes of your engine’s failures.

To reach this exactitude you must use only the most complete troubleshooting that is considering all the real possibilities that can be the cause to any one of the spark plugs appearances, and that quickly, easy and properly identifies if the actual root cause of any tip’s appearance is due to a mixture or timing misadjustments or other probable mechanical trouble, or due to the particular driving habits and/or engine operating conditions that makes necessary to change the spark plug’s heat range.

With this critical information you will be in the right way to precisely fine tune your loved engine.

Where you may find it?

Ah! This is the question of the million!

Recently was introduced to the market the unique tuning device on the planet that allows you to properly manage the powerful heat range function of the spark plugs, telling you how many heat ranges you must switch to customize your vehicle to your particular driving habits and/or engine operating conditions, to increase the performance, achieve the best fuel economy, ensure reliability, extend the engine’s life and reach the lowest emissions.

Fine tuning you engine by using the right tool is now easiest and accurately than ever.

You have the decision at your hands now.

Finding a Shop You Can Trust

How do you find a shop you can trust to service your vehicle—one that will make you feel confident about your choice and provide quality repairs at a fair price? Here are some tips:

Start with the most obvious. Is the facility neat and clean? Are employees genuinely concerned with your questions and are their answers direct, to the point and reasonable?

Look at the credentials of the business and the employees who will service your vehicle. Most shops will post educational certifications or accomplishments and professional business affiliations in their waiting areas. Some affiliations to look for include trade association membership, such as the Automotive Service Association (ASA), and membership in the Better Business Bureau (BBB). Look for certification or education offered by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), the Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair (I-CAR) and the Automotive Management Institute (AMI).

Ask about the equipment used to diagnose and perform the service. Is it up-to-date and are the technicians educated in the proper equipment use?

Make sure a written estimate is provided prior to letting the business begin the repair. A good rule of thumb is to request approval on any changes to the original estimate that exceed 10 percent.

Ask about the shop's warranty. Most automotive service facilities will warranty their parts and labor either in writing or in shop posted announcements.

Ask family, friends and neighbors for their recommendations. Word-of-mouth referrals are the shop's best form of advertising.

Relevant pics from Flickr

Through the years and in almost all societies, owning and driving a car has somehow become a status symbol because it is quite logical that owning up such a vehicle is not always affordable.

These days, however, people have greater chances of buying a car because there are practically more options in transactions.

If you are aiming to purchase a car, it would be wise if you would take into consideration several factors. Initially, you need to decide whether you want to buy a new or a used car. If you have enough money to spend, of course, buying a new car is the most advisable and logical thing to do.

New cars are always on top quality and are guaranteed to deliver good and reliable performances. On the other hand, if your budget is quite limited, you can opt to purchase a second-hand car, which are available at car auctions or through used car dealers and brokers.

When buying such refurbished and reconditioned cars, it is imperative that you look at several considerations, particularly, the number of the car's previous owners, accident and mechanical history and maintenance requirements.

When purchasing a new car, it would surely be helpful if you would take note of the following advices and recommendations. These are considered the basic and important things and activities you should do before car purchase.

1. If you are aiming to find and secure the best and most reasonable deals when purchasing a car, it would be advisable if you would make the acquisition on the period from July to October and on the second half of December.

It is a know fact that cars are basically less costly on these periods. Annually, the periods also coincide with the usual periods car dealers usually launch and implement significant car purchase discounts. Discounts of a few percent surely would mean a lot of savings.

2. Do a comparison shop first. There are numerous used car dealers in the community and all of them are aiming to cut the throat of each other.

That is why you can be sure there is intense competition, which usually comes in the form of contests to lure more customers by lowering prices. Of course, dealers offering the best and most competitive prices win, and you should do business with them.

3. Always remember that cars that would be ordered from a car plant or facility must not cost more when compared to the prices of cars on the lot or the showroom. Many car buyers are fooled when dealers charge extra costs for cars that need to be ordered from plants.

Likewise, you should be wary about cars that need to be sourced or located by the dealer from another dealership. Usually, used car dealers implement additional, yet, unnecessary fees for such service.

4. It is illegal for car dealers to sell cars that lack price invoice sticker or MSRP. The price tags in the showroom should always be the actual price you would need to pay if you are making the purchase. No more, no less.

5. Lastly, it would be wise if you would do your own research of the car model or brand you are purchasing. Carmakers and marketers hire the best advertisers. So at times, do not fully believe ads for they have been developed and produced to awe and lure buyers.

Most powerful racing Porche 911 considerably improved

Auto News : Auto Industry : Porsche News

The Porsche GT3 RSR launches into the new model year with extensive modifications. The most powerful race car based on the Porsche 911, which last year scored wins at the 24 hour races of Le Mans and Spa as well as overall victory at the Nuerburgring 24 hours, competes in the GT2 class at international long distance races. The most distinguish-ing feature of the new GT3 RSR is the front end which received major improvements to the aerodynamics. The majority of innovations however are hidden under the weight-optimised body.

Aside from the easily recognisable additional spoilers on the front apron, so-called flicks, an optimised air ducting with newly-designed side air outlets generates more downforce and reduces drag. The rear end including the rear wing was taken over from the predecessor. Extensive changes to the suspension cinematics increase mechanical grip considerably. The range of possible suspension set-ups was broadened.

The 3.8-litre boxer engine of the GT3 RSR remains unchanged apart from slight improvements to details. It delivers 465 hp (342 kW) at 8,000 revs per minute and delivers a maximum torque of 430 Nm at 7,250 revs. The rev limiter of the efficient six-cylinder kicks in at 9,400 rpm.
Much of the know-how in the GT3 RSR’s totally new gearbox has come from the RS Spyder sports prototype. The sequential six-speed unit, developed by Porsche engineers, is considerably lighter than its predecessor. Internal friction was substantially reduced. The flat angle of the drive shafts allows teams a wider range of suspension set-ups.

Aside from the GT3 Cup and the GT3 Cup S, the GT3 RSR is the third race car based on the Porsche 911 offered by Porsche Motorsport. Thirty-five units of the fastest and most powerful long distance racer made in Weissach, apart from the exclusive RS Spyder sports prototype, are now being produced and delivered to customer teams around the globe. The price of the GT3 RSR is 349,800 Euro plus VAT.

Chevy crossover will have 3 rows of seats

Traverse is making debut at the upcoming Chicago auto show
provided by: www.msnbc.msn.com

CHICAGO - Chevrolet is adding a crossover with three rows of seats to its lineup — the Chevrolet Traverse — which is set to debut this week at the Chicago Auto Show.

A crossover vehicle is one that has most of the attributes of a truck-based sport utility vehicle but is more maneuverable and gets better gas mileage because it’s built on car underpinnings.

The Traverse, which borrows its bold front end and styling from the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu, joins the two-row Equinox in Chevrolet’s crossover family. The Traverse will go into production in Spring Hill, Tenn., in the third quarter of this year.

The Traverse isn’t coming a moment too soon for General Motors Corp.’s Chevrolet division. Automakers have been racing to introduce more crossovers as the segment continues to grow in an otherwise soft market. Crossover sales rose 16 percent in 2007, despite a 3 percent decline in the market overall.

GM’s Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia and Saturn Outlook crossovers were a bright spot for the automaker in last year’s bleak market, and they continued to perform well in January. Acadia sales rocketed up 335 percent in January from the same month in 2007, while Outlook sales more than doubled. Those models all feature three rows of seating

Chevrolet will also face competition from other new three-row crossovers this year, including the Ford Flex and Dodge Journey.

“We think the Traverse is the right vehicle for the right time,” Ed Peper, Chevrolet’s general manager, said in a statement.

Peper said the Traverse drives like a smaller vehicle but is large enough to accommodate adults in the third row and will have a large cargo space. It also has sliding second-row seats for easier access to the third row.

The Chicago Auto Show opens to the public Friday after two days of media previews.

GM also announced Wednesday at the show that half its U.S. vehicle volume will run on ethanol by 2012, just as partner Coskata Inc. is expected to be ramping up ethanol production.

In a speech at the show, GM North America President Troy Clarke said GM will have 11 ethanol-capable vehicles on the market this year and 15 in 2009. Clarke also announced that GM will be producing its first four-cylinder ethanol-capable model, the FlexFuel Chevrolet HHR, in 2010.

“We don't only want to respond to the needs of the market. We want to anticipate them,” Clarke said.

How To Avoid Auto Mechanics Scams

Going nuts everytime a check engine light goes on, is nothing new. Everyone's busy and cannot possibly have enough time to go check your car or truck whenever this happens, so you take it with good will to your "loyal" mechanic and he checks it over and a famous one liner that you've heard before utters his lips, you know, something like, "Good thing you brought it over, I don't think it would have lasted another mile." Or something like that.

Whenever the check engine light goes on, don't panic. I've known several people who've had this problem over and over again.

Usually it's a computer problem, or something so simple as needing another gas cap that makes people go into a tizzy. Sometimes the check engine light goes on because something needs attention that shouldn't wait too.

I know there's a lot of mechanics out there who are trustworthy, and reliable, and maybe you are perfectly happy when them. And maybe they come running down your driveway everytime the check engine light does come on, but most of the time, the engine has nothing to do with the that light gives you that wallet busting warning.

When a check engine light comes on, the on board usually stores a code that will lead to direction of the malfunction. Consider it a map with treasure being your malfunction. It doesn't necessarily tell you exactly what is wrong but gives you a code that you (or a technician) can decipher and get to what's aching your baby. Sounds simple, doesn't it? Well before you Indiana Jones wannabes light your torch and go into dark caverns under your hood, get all your facts straight. Just like Dr. Jones did with his archeological facts, you'll have to do a little research yourself. Sounds scary? Don't worry, it's not. Let's say the code "p0171, oxygen sensor indicates lean" shows up, causing your check engine light to glow. It doesn't mean the oxygen sensor is bad, it just means that the oxygen sensor is stuck lean. Now there could be several reasons for this; the engine could be running lean because of a number of problems, or the oxygen sensor is lazy and may actually need to be replaced. However, a bad oxygen sensor should set a oxygen sensor code as well.

Replacing a oxygen sensor sounds less threatening than replacing your transmission, doesn't it? It's amazing how many auto mechanics will tell you what's wrong when a check engine light goes on. It's become a vital commodity to mechanics, just like a pop up ad on your computer, but they don't have to pay for this ad.

And research is really not so bad. It's not like homework, you don't have to do it, however, if you don't, and ignore it, you'll regret it. So how can distinguish what your car needs, and what kind of project it will entail if you can't trust your mechanic? Well, you can take it to a mechanic when the check engine light goes on, but most mechanics charge jup to hundreds of dollars just to inspect the problem, and you'll have to add this to fix what that the mechanic has dreamed up, after all, who's he afraid of, it's not like you've done your research, right? Here is a great way to get your research done before going to the mechanic, so you know what you are in for.

Almost all car repair questions can now be answered online, right at your fingertips. Your mechanic will never look at you the same ever again.

How to Cope with Cold

Source: AAA Michigan

Preparing now for frigid weather conditions will help keep your vehicle on the road, advises AAA Michigan. This month, the Auto Club has received calls for emergency road service that are well above normal levels for this time of year. AAA is giving priority to callers stranded on freeways or in traffic, where they are facing hazards.

Motorists can help keep their vehicles on the road by doing the following:

* Check your battery strength. Faulty batteries cause more car starting problems than any other factor. At zero degrees, a good battery has 35 percent less starting power.
* Park your car in the garage. If you have no garage, put a tarp over the hood or park protected from prevailing winds. To keep doors from freezing shut, place a plastic trash bag between the door and the frame.
* Keep the fuel tank at least half-full to avoid fuel-line freeze-up.
* To avoid frozen door locks, buy a lubricant available in most auto supply stores. If your lock freezes, heat your key with a pocket lighter but remember to wear gloves or hold the key with pliers. Or, fill a plastic jug with hot water. Hold it against the door panel or lock area. Do not throw hot water on the car. It may freeze and run the risk of cracking glass.
* If you become stranded, stay with your vehicle. It provides excellent shelter from the cold and makes it easier for rescuers to locate you. If you can start your engine, run it only enough to keep warm. Make sure the exhaust pipe is snow-free. Keep emergency supplies in the car, such as a cell phone, boots, hats, gloves, blankets, a "coffee can heater," flashlight and reflective triangle.

AAA and the Michigan Towing Association remind motorists to give tow truck operators a "brake." They're there to help you. Drive with care when a tow truck's there.

About Automo-tips

Some people use their automobiles only to get from Point A to Point B.
